When I get back from any occasion with my camera, as I download the images for editing there is an inevitable process of sorting. On my first pass I tag the loser images. Whether it be lighting, focus or composition - many shots just don't work. Some times the outcome is so bad the image never makes it to the point of taking up space, even temporarily on the camera. As I was putting together my photos for yearly best, there are some images I have found myself lingering over. I contemptated having a top 10 for each year, but in the end decided to creating what I am going to call my Top 50. I thought about various cutoffs and felt that 50 was a reasonable number. When I publish my first Best Of Series I will choose 50 images from 2022 through 2024 as my starting point. At this stage I have almost 190,000 images in various stages of processing and organization. I imagine as I work my way back to my early years of digital photography (circa 2002), this list will evolved and I hope it does moving forward. In addition to the date and location, I chose to include the camera, lens and settings for each image. As I completed the list, it is surprising how many of these images break the rules for ISO, f Stop and/or shutter speed. My plan is if a new or old image makes it into the top 50 it will have to suplant another image. I will create an secondary category at the end of this page for the Honor Roll - those images that get bumped over time. I don't intend for the list to be in order of preference, for that is like asking me who my favorite child is. I love them all for who they are, as I do my favorite images.
