Our trip to Italy was our second excursion with G adventures. We needed a break from work and this experience was a great combination of the old and new. In keeping with our last experience with G Adventures our guide, Elisebetta or as she preferred 'Mother Duck', went above and beyond to create a memorable experience.
After an overnight night flight we arrived mid morning in Venice. That day we started with a walking tour of the lesser seen portions of the city. It culminated in the quintessental Venice experience of a gondola ride. Fate would have it that one of the gondolas in our group has a tenor and guitar player and we were serenaded with opera arias as we glided down the Grand Canal.
The next day we we took a second tour of St Mark's Basilica and the Doges Place. We finished our experience with trips to Murano and Burano.
We then took a bus to Cinque Terre and spend the afternoon hiking the trails between the villages. The day ended with a sunset dinner in Vernazza.
We had a free morning and Elisebetta suggested a side trip to Porto Venenre by boat. On a photo per hour basis it was the hightlight of the trip.
The last few days we spent in Florence which included a walking food tour of the other side of the city.
Just prior to my first trip to Italy I had finished a photography course. It was suggested when you visit a city for the first time to focus on one particular aspect of the architure. Early on it was an easy decision to focus on doors. The variety of enough to justify its own category for this visit.
Thanks again to Elisebetta and G Adventures for another memorable experience.
