After our less than optimal trip to Roatan, we were anxious to try a different type of diving adventure. One option that seemed to rise to the surface on many 'top ten' list of destinations was Bonaire. I found that when I was speaking about our upcoming trip, Bonaire required more in the way of background information. For outside of divers and kiteboarders, there is not much widespread appeal of going to Bonaire. It is a small island in the southern Carribean of only 110 square miles often lumped with Aruba and Curacao as the ABC islands. Not that it was a concern at this time of the year, but the ABC islands lie outside of the 'Hurricaine Alley' of the Carribean. After experiencing 10 inches of rainfall during our week in Roatan, there was a definite appeal of its 300+ days of sunshine and year round temperature between 75 and 85. Another unique feature is the abundance of shore diving sites, with one of favorites being the reef just off the dock of our condomenium! The trip was one of several notables including our first shore dives, our first night dive and my passing the 50 dive mark!!! Again we traveled with our dive buddies, Andrea and Carlton, and I feel we all found this to be a experience we would all like to one day repeat!
